A quilt top...

Considering it's made up of scraps my scrap bin spilt on the floor plus 3 ft quarters  this top aint doing too badly at all :) 

Muddled and mixed up and stacked into piles, each square is 6"x6"

Then sewn into a 10x10 quilt top 

At which point I realised I don't have enough wadding to turn it into a quilt D'oh!

One seam flying geese

I eventually got round to posting it :)

You have my apologies for the stray threads in these photo's and the bad lighting, but we're all friends here and I'm sure you'll forgive me!

I was shown how to make these at my LQS after bemoaning how crap I am at traditional flying geese, so I'm putting them out here on internet land for all of us that have an irrational fear of geese (We must have been attacked by geese when we were little) I didn't design them myself so please don't think I did.

For 1 unit you need

one 5.5"x3" rectangle for your triangle

two 3"x3" squares

Fold your "goose" in half wrong sides together and place it on the right side of a square.

Pop your other 3"x3" square on top, right side down.

Holding your little goose sandwich with the fold facing away from you wander to your nearest sewing machine and sew up a 1/4" seam on the right hand side. (Or hand sew if your that way inclined) 

Erm yes I know that's not a 1/4" seam on my block, I couldn't be chewed changing sewing machine feet so I eye balled it...badly! 

You should have something that looks like this.

Attack it with an iron!!!  Press the top square to the right.

Open it out and there you have it, a happy flying geese unit, with little "pockets" and no therapy needed :D

Things I've been sewing so far this month

I thought I would make an effort and re-take some of the quilt photo's for the shop, because regardless of what Etsy forums seem to say, a white background was doing nothing for my quilts! I now have a bunch of editing to do and then the shop will look all sparkly and new :D

I've started sewing up my x and + blocks finally! I have a load more to sew/make before it's the size I want but a start is always good.

Franky #2 has grown significantly and will also at some point soon end up in the shop as I've been meaning to get some wall hangings in there for ages.

My block for the uk borders agency bee  One seam flying geese! I swear I'm now loving these things :D I was asked on Flickr how to make them so I'll put up a super quick tutorial at some point today if anyone here is interested?

My finished Mod Mosaic quilt

This one is staying with me, I love it soooo much, all of those little scraps we keep can be used for something pretty! 

My Horizon has a load of stitches for quilting, being me I didn't use them lol I found this one in the "Utility stitches" section. I have no idea what it would be used for other than quilting but if you know please do tell!

Well I'm off to go and tidy up the sewing room after all of the creative mess that has accumulated over the past few days...Wish me luck! 

Irish dancing

So my dad sent me a link "How Irish dancing started" and I really felt the need to share, after I had stopped laughing!

Anna Maria Horner quilt Finish!

My week started out with a lovely stack of Anna Maria Horner flannels.

I had a brief interlude at A&E on Friday, I must have looked horrid as I was seen in 15 minutes not 3 hours :) I'm lots better now but stress is definitely not my friend.

So a chilled out weekend was in store for me, bed rest all day Saturday and some sewing today. Well I finished off the stack of flannel and wanted to take some photo's, so him in doors took us all down to the beach and here is the finished quilt! 

I love how soft these flannels are! They remind me of the PJ's I used to get on Christmas eve as a kid :D

The quilt came in at an impressive 49"x39" and is quilted on both sides of the seams.

So while I was taking a nice chilled walk along the sea shore Him in doors was doing this - 

Sometimes I worry about him, other times I just stand back and take a photo :D
