Not your usual content here but I really wanted to share this video. It is a regular conversation in our house, and I imagine some of yours too, that our country is biased towards sports with its funding over some areas that are much more in need ie education and health care but when I watched this short film it really does put things in perspective.
I love that this articulate young woman is saying how she feels, standing for her beliefs and has the ability to reach a wide audience.

Well it didn't get finished over the weekend but Monday wasn't too far off :)

A little sewing before work

I have a short shift today with an evening finish so I thought I'd get a little sewing in before I head out the door.

Quilting as I go while working through my low volume fabric stash, hope this one will be done for the weekend :)

Its all part of the process

I've been thinking about my blog over the last few days and it occurred to me that I don't share the "making" very often-even though I regularly take photos as I sew. I think part of this is due to the less than stella lighting in the attic and partly because I normally make quilts and lets face it there are hundreds of process posts for quilts all over blogland. A change came about though, I made another pillow, well cushion really as I'm in the UK but hayho I'll go with the crowd for this post and call it a pillow lol

So I've been interested in Runes for a fairly long time, so much so that I had the Elder Futhark tattooed down my back a few years back. I like being able to see them about the place but when I've looked for beautiful art works that portray runes I discovered they were rather thin on the ground. Now I'm not saying I have made an outstanding artwork however I have made something that makes me happy when I see it and I do tend to think that it amounts to the same thing yes?

To start with I pulled my rune images and printed them onto freezer paper (and yes I printed on the wrong side first!)

I then trimmed them down and cut them out, leaving the centre cutouts in place.

I decided I wanted these made from a deep forest green felt

So shiny side down they went and I *gently* pressed them with the iron. Then out came the super small embroidery scissors to cut them out (Him in doors cut the inner parts out for me as believe it or not I'm rather accident prone when it comes to delicate details! )

Popped them onto a quilt sandwich, pinned them down and stitched them into place.

I then went with that fabulous tag line "quilt as desired" and I desired to quilt it with pebbles :D

Given my fear of zippers my pillow has an envelope back.

I then wrapped the whole thing in a binding and called it a day!
I truly enjoyed making my rune pillow, felt and linen just seemed right to use given the subject matter.

I hope you're having a lovely weekend, we're having so much sun here my garden plants and I have gone into shock but It's lovely being able to sit out and eat strawberry's dipped in honey in the sun :)

Have an amazing weekend :)

Quilt as you go placemats

We managed to get a dining room table in December and now it's June and I finally made some place mats for it!

Can you spot stealth kitty?

These were made using the logic of grab a scrap and sew it on hence the shapes and colours may not be exactly what I had originally envisioned but they do brighten the pace up :)

Pillow talk swap 10 received! And its awesome :D

This lovely collection of goodies landed on my mat!

Bella automatically thinks all packages that turn up here are hers, this one simply had to be hers as it had a bow on for her to pat!

Once I had valiantly fought her off for control of the iron throne the package this is what I found inside!

Juli Ann had sent me this amazing swap package & I am totally over the moon with this pillow. I had asked her during the swap to send it on over to me and she did! how fabulous is that :D
I also received a lovely Katie Daisy card, some flat flower pins (I think after a comment I made about never being able to find pins in my sewing room) and some pretty embroidery threads which I already have a plan for and it was all wrapped with a AMH ribbon bow :D

The fabric on the back is really cool too & as you can just make out on the pic above it has a zip closure, now I know this isn't a big deal to some people but it is to me as I seriously suck at sewing zips therefore I'm in sewing awe of anyone that can make those buggers look good.

And finally here it is in all of its hipstermatic-y coloured perfect points fabulousness sitting in its new home, my armless armchair.

Hope you're having a fab week and have fun plans for the weekend!

Pillow talk swap 10

Well this baby is now making its way to it's new home along with some little extras :)

The back was as fun to do as the front and incited less swear words too!

The binding is an Amy Butler dot fabric

And here it is in it's multicoloured pointy glory :D
I hope my partner likes it when it gets to her.
